IP address| IPV4 VS IPV6 |192.168.1.1| IP addressing

ip address

IP address

An IP address is a logical address provided for every device it

Is like the identification of a device that helps to connect to the internet

Helps to communicate devices with each other and allows you to transmit the data through the internet.

Example of the IP address: 192.168.1.1

Well, it is not only an example of an IP because there are 5 different classes of an IP that starts from A and ends at E IP address is made of 32 bits each of the obtain contains 8 bits.

There are 2 types of IP address IPV4 and IPV6

IPV4: IPV4 means ip version 4, there are 4,294,967,296 ip addresses in the both IPV4 and IPV6 were founded from finite numbers of pools the pool 232 is for IPV4 and contains 4,294,967,296 ip addresses as discussed before and the pool for IPV6 is (2128) the space of IPV6 is 128 bits and contains 340,282,366,920,938,463,463,374,607,431,768,211,456 ip addresses.

Let's talk about the difference between IPV4 and IPV6:

  • Representation: the IPV4 is written in a numerical form and it's divided in "." (dot) form.

  • Example of IPV4: 192.168.0.1 (as shown before)

  • The IPV6 is written in the alphanumeric form. And it's divided into the form of ":" (colon)

  • The example of IPV6: 3004:0ab9:78b3:1110:1100:9c3e:3770:5932.

  • When founded?: IPV4 was founded in 1980. By Jon Postel(American computer scientist) and IPV6 was founded in 2012 by Internet Engineering Task Force that's why we can say IPV6 is the latest version and IPV4 is not.

  • Efficiency: in the matter of efficiency the IPV6 comes over IPV4 because of its faster routing without fragments of packets

  • What is used: IPV4 uses broadcast and IPV6 uses multicast for transmitting.

  • speed: in the battle of speed IPV4 was the winner it happened because it is a private logical address.

  • The real difference: IPV4 provides globally different IP addresses and provides PRIVATE logical addresses

  • IPV6 provides globally different unicast logical addresses.

The reason for the invention of IPV6:

As we all know the demand for the devices was continually increasing and the addresses of IPV4 were limited and they were about to finish to allocate then IPV6 was invented it's size was 128 bit and it was containing 340,282,366,920,938,463,463,374,607,431,768,211,456 addresses in itself which were thousands of times more than IPV4 after IPV6 found there was a lot of guessing of addresses are not gonna finish earlier like IPV4

In recent times the use of IPV6 is continuously increasing for example the Jio brand in India is now about to allocate the IPV6 logical addresses and many of the telecom companies are thinking and doing the same thing or are in the same way

ipv4 and ipv6 have sub netmask have 255.255.255.0 this first three is a network id and 0 is the host and one network  make 255 computer in one network and 1,65,81,375 total in one network and DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration ) server  provide IP to the network
